Hurricane evacuation preparation: Where to go with your pets

So seriously, is it not scorching hot outside? It’s only June! I can’t imagine what’s to come in July and AUGUST! I realize what I’m saying is quite obvious, but I do actually have a point to make. We are knee-deep into hurricane season and with the weather being so extreme it’s probably a good idea to get prepared.

The stress of having to evacuate your home is pretty big, but adding pets into the equation can make it overwhelming. So the best thing you can do is figure out a plan NOW so later you’ll know exactly what you’re going to do.

A good friend recently asked me if I knew of good evacuation shelters that allow pets. My first inclination was to compile a list by calling every hotel and storm shelter in Florida, but  than it occured to me that someone else may have done the work already. And sure enough, someone has.

This site has some great info about why pet-friendly shelters are a good thing and a detailed list of emergency shelters and hotels in Florida. Go here for a pet-friendly hurricane guide
